5 Fri, Feb 20, 09 RESPECT IN SPORTS Effective with the 2009 Outdoor Program, EIYSA will be implementing a new requirement for coaches in our program. The new requirement will be "Respect in Sport". EIYSA believes in being proactive in ensuring our sport is safe and welcoming for all participants. Respect in Sport will help us promote those values through a simple and convenient on-line training course. It is designed as a tool to assist coaches in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment, and bullying in sport.
The program takes about 2.5 hours to complete. It is our intention to make this program available, as of February 20, 2009. The program will be mandatory for all coaches. The cost of the program will be born by EIYSA. It is our intention to role out this program progressively to all team officials, as well as offer parent workshops. Initially, for 2009, only coaches will be involved. Subsequently, as indicated, we will encompass other team officials.
For more information on "Respect in Sport", go to: www.respectinsport.com
February 20, 2009(Update) Program is now available for coaches to commence. Coaches, check with your club's registrar for procedures.
6 Thu, Feb 19, 09 LONG TERM ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT All stakeholders in sport should be aware of the 7-stage Canadian model of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD). It is a training, competition, and recovery program based on development age – the maturation level of an individual- rather than chronological age. It is athlete centered, coach driven, and administration, sport science, and sponsor supported. Athletes who progress through LTAD experience training and competition in programs that consider their biological and training ages in creating plans that are specific to their development needs.
